Q: What benefits does a project like this have for salmon?
A:  Estuary habitat has been discovered to be a key factor of the life history of endangered Chinook salmon.  The estuary provides an abundance of food and relatively low salinity where the fish can slowly adapt and ready themselves for their salt water life stage in Puget Sound and the open ocean.  In the Skagit system the lack of estuary habitat has been determined to be a limiting factor in the recovery of Chinook salmon.

Q: Does this project help recover salmon at the expense of other animals.
A: On the contrary, this project will restore natural habitat for a variety of species.  A wide array of species depend on estuary habitats.  These include waterfowl, shorebird, marine and terrestrial mammal, fish, shellfish, and plant species.

Q: When will the project be constructed?
A: The goal of the current effort is to create a 90% design for the restoration work.  The commencement of construction of the project will depend upon funding, permitting, and the final scope of the design.
